Classic Foil session behind a boat.

I am so thankful to be in the Land of Common Sense, where Lake LBJ is still not locked down. While so many are planted in front on their TVs ingesting massive amounts of fear, we got to get on the water and shred a little (staying 6’ apart at all times of course). I think we are all a bit healthier and ready for viral attack for it.

Today, I left my eFoil in my truck to ride on a friend’s MasterCraft X-22 with a couple of straight-up killers. (Truth is, I wasn’t in good enough shape to foil as much as I did the last warm, sunny day we had and I over-exerted my right hip-flexor. Today was the first day I didn’t need both hands to lift my right leg into my pants, so chilling on the boat and watching these young bucks go was right on. Best believe I will step up my pre-hab game as we roll into summer!).

Matt and Jack we competitive collegiate wakeboarders at Texas State (2016 site here), and are watermen through and through. Their enthusiasm for new experiences on the water was matched only by their skills. In the video linked below, Matt gets the 4’0 dialed in on the 2nd swell of the boat. In videos to be published later, both Matt and Jack experiment with other wing sizes, swells, and just rip!

Try another foil on for size!

Like most people, I started on a 170 Classic Foil. That series was developed over decades of evolution in the Puerto Rican surf, and it is LEGIT. In the past few months, I have experimented with bigger and smaller foils and found several new worlds of fun! Click Here for Nick’s breakdown of the Classic Wing Collection

Adam loves the 200 wing best - Click here for a link to his video

The 200 is like a rock: super easy to ride flat and smooth.

The 150 feels like a skateboard - you can undulate and carve with a flick of the foot.

The 170 still might be the goldilocks wing.

The 110 is my new adventure tonight - can’t wait to try that out! Instead of reading this, you should catch me on the water and let’s continue this conversation there!

Hawaiian Watermen stoked on the foil

This is exactly how I feel about foiling. Praise God that Nick figured out how to put an electric motor on the mast so I can rip up any body of water 3’ or deeper! Check out the video here of Dave Kalama and Austin Kalama.

“The sensation you get on the foil board is like nothing you can describe. You try to describe it as flying, but it’s not really that because you’re on something. You try to describe it as levitating, but it’s not really…it’s a completely unique situation” - Austin Kalama.

I say “spot-on!”

Now imagine that, but trade the paddle for an electric motor. Imagine how fun this is for a kid from Minnesota who transplanted to Texas (Hawaiians are comparatively spoiled when it comes to opportunities to have fun in the water).

I get that the weather now is just for the hardcore, but you have to try this in the spring. Next winter you might find yourself racing sundown in a wetsuit like me!

Year-round fun

This is the funnest thing I know how to do with pants on!

I have been hammering away, and frankly my mindset was starting to get to a bad place. 90 minutes on the lake later, I am completely inspired to make great things for great people again. If you want to live your biggest, most fun life day in/day out (not just on vacation or when you retire, or do x), you have to come try this with us. This could seriously change your life for the positive!

Best Workout Ever

One thing I love about electric foiling is how my body feels after a session.

Now that I’m in my 40s, I notice that board sports keep me fit in the best way. Too much Running can make me look like a crackhead; too much weight lifting and I look like a meatball; too much Cross Fit and I’ll probably feel hurt; too much yoga and a miss my masculine edge.

Balancing on that foil for an hour strengthens my core and legs like nothing else while not impacting my joints in the slightest. I’m sure there are workout routines I could do on land that would be as good or better, but there’s no way they would be fun enough for me to get near as much in on foil.

7 battery charges/week makes me my best. I have a ton of other responsibilities in my life, so going all the time seems off balance. 1 hour/day is around 6% of my waking time, and the way I show up for the other 94% with that investment totally justifies it.

There is no other board-sport that I could sustainably do that with. An hour/day surfing, kiteboarding, wakeboarding, or snowboarding would require major disruption to my life when conditions were perfect. An hour/day skateboarding would injure me before the year was up for sure. Sessions on the e-foil are arguably better on water that is windblown. Hot or “cold” weather is no factor with the right gear (surf gear for the NW coast is too hot to wear on a Texas lake on the coldest day). If it’s busy on one lake and I want to get away, I can put in on tiny river. If I’m one a business trip, there’s usually some lake or river nearby. There is just almost nothing that blocks me from riding.

So back to the workout piece. After 45 battery charges in 45 days, I am truly in the best shape of my life. My knees, ankles and hips have never felt more flexible. My clothes fit better than ever. I’ve always had a little man-muffin-top action (better abs than most my age, but not exactly male-model material)

A reason to get after it

October 18th - a reason to get after it:

I’ve been married for almost 20 years now. My wife is no longer impressive if I have 6-pack abs. No teams are consider drafting me. Frankly, when you’re in your 40s, there ought to be a good reason to work out.

Enter the Lift E-Foil.

Balancing on foil for an hour straight is an incredible workout. After dozens of sessions, every time, you are looking forward to recovery, getting back on the water and progressing as a rider. Suddenly, no matter how old or jaded with the gym you may be, you have a reason to want to tear up the gym after dark.

Life is much better on foil - Call 844-246-3636 today to book a lesson!

Sunday morning session on November 3rd, 2019. I frankly didn’t realize how wack I look riding slow compared to using more throttle and leaning forward more. My leg strength and endurance continues to improves: this is probably my 20th session or so. The progression is so fun!

ACL Weekend

I like live music, but I don’t like crowds. One way I found to stay centered and happy inside when by 16-year old ropes me into taking them to Austin City Limits is to go riding at sun-up. After an hour on the water, I’m smiling on the outside and I’m so clean on the inside that nothing really upsets me for another 24.
